On July 11th, the St. John’s Fly Fishers hosted a fly casting clinic in the side yard of the Church. Seven participants, ranging in ages from 14 to 73 received expert guidance from Wes and Jack from Jesse Brown’s Outdoors (a neighborhood outfitter/adventure store in Southpark).
Wes and Jack split the group based on previous experience and did a great job getting everyone through the basics of casting and thinking ahead to applying the techniques to a river or stream.

For some, it was their first time holding a fly rod, for others, it was a reacquaintance with previous struggles.
One of our participants, Greg McAbee, who had no previous experience, asked some great questions about fly casting and applied his knowledge of music to his casting stroke. “I’ve been interested in fly fishing for a while now. I love music and could tell this about timing and rhythm”, said Greg.

We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to once again share our love and passion for fly fishing and fellowship with great people.
We continue to grow with more and more interest in our ministry. We say thank you!
Our next event is our beginner-level trip to the South Fork of the New River for Smallmouth Bass the weekend of August 3rd.
Stay tuned for our updated calendar to include informational sessions and fall trip ideas.
